State Troopers have charged a Florida man with theft and DUI for an incident early Friday morning in Northern Indiana County.
Police say they were called out to investigate a motor vehicle theft at a home in the 7000 block of Route 85 in South Mahoning Township. When they got there, troopers discovered that around 3:20 AM, the suspect, 20-year-old Allen Michael McCumbers of Jacksonville, Florida, was able to get into an unlocked Subaru sedan belonging to Brian Goldstrohm, which was parked and unattended outside a home. While fleeing, McCumbers allegedly drove the car into another parked car owned by Goldstrohm and a pile of pipes. McCumbers then fled going East on Route 85. With the help of Troopers from Kittaning station, they found McCumbers at a convenience store on Troy Hill Road in Armstrong County. When he was taken into custody, McCumbers was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol , and that he stole a pickup truck belonging to Nitro Excavating of Marion Center from a home on Bell School Road in Washington Township. The truck was recovered at the convenience store, while the car was found crashed over an embankment on Redding Run Road.
Not only does McCumbers face two felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and a misdemeanor count of DUI, he faces four summary traffic violations. McCumbers was arraigned before District Judge Jennifer Rega and was placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $2500 straight cash bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for September 6th at 11:30 AM.
