The Steelers took a 20-17 lead into the locker room at halftime, but both the offense and the defense sputtered in the second half and they lost to Cincinnati, 37-30. Samaje Perine caught three touchdown passes from Joe Burrow for the Bengals. Burrow threw for 355 yards and four scores, but was also picked off twice, once by Levi Wallace in the first half and once by TJ Watt in the second. Najee Harris led Pittsburgh with 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Coach Mike Tomlin said his defense wasn’t good enough.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett says the Steelers didn’t take advantage of their opportunities.
Pickett is still confident in his ability to be a pro QB.
Pickett was 14-of-19 passing for just 141 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. But he came out of the locker room cold in the second half, going 3-for-8 for 13 yards, when the Steelers went three-and-out on their first three possessions. After the Watt interception, their next possession was three plays and a field goal.
Watt says the Steelers can’t give up.
The Bengals are 6-4 and second in the AFC North. The Steelers are 3-7 and tied with the Browns for last place in the division.
Up next for the Steelers is a game next Monday night at Indianapolis. The Colts are 4-6-1 and in second place in the AFC South. They lost to the Eagles, 17-16, yesterday.
Elsewhere in the AFC North, first place Baltimore got by Carolina, 13-3. The Browns lost to the Bills, 31-23, in Detroit, the game having been moved there because of the blizzard in Buffalo.
