In Indiana County Court today, defendants will be sentenced in nineteen DUI cases. Some of those scheduled in court will be there for multiple cases, some for DUI and drugs, and one for DUI and aggravated assault for an accident in which she was involved.
30-year-old April Lynn Duncan of New Kensington is charged with three felonies, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, and accidents involving death or personal injury for a crash on August 6th last year. There are also two misdemeanor counts of DUI and misdemeanor simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, along with nine summary driving violations. In a plea bargain in April, she pleaded guilty to a single offense, misdemeanor driving under the influence, but in June she withdrew that plea and decided to go to trial. Now she is scheduled to plead and be sentenced today.
Also scheduled for sentencing today are three defendants who have already pleaded guilty, all for DUI (second offense). They are Donald Tyrone Smith Jr. of Indiana, Christina Taylor of Commodore, and Christopher McKendrick of Saltsburg.
