Unemployment in Pennsylvania has reached a record low.
The Department of Labor and Industry reports Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate for the month of October is 4 percent, down one tenth of a percent from the previous month. This marks a 1.4 percent drop since the beginning of 2022, and a decline of 1.6 percent since October of last year.
The total non-farm jobs number went up by 10,400 over October to 6,009,500, which marks the first time that number surpassed six million since the recovery began. The civilian labor force was up 2000 over the month, with the employment count going up by 8000, while resident unemployment went down 6000.
While a record low jobless rate is seen as a positive economic indicator, Labor and Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier says it’s just the beginning, adding we must remain vigilant in our efforts to growing the state’s labor force, providing the skills needed for the jobs being created.
