On Thursday night, the River Valley School Board approved a major step in getting the new football stadium at the Blairsville Campus built.
The board last night by a 5-3 vote approved spending $2,804,061 from the Capital Programs funds to Hellas Construction for the new football stadium, running track and lighting in the parking lot. Board President Rick Harper said that this was a big step towards the start of formal construction.
Harper also responded to concerns brought up that the new stadium would raise taxes in the district. He said that it is not the case due to the bond issues that have been taken out for the project.
Voting against the project were Beverly Carnese, Jessica Clawson, and Nathan Baird.
In other business, the board approved hiring Dr. Mitchel Nickols for the district diversity, equity, and inclusion program in the amount not to exceed $9000 paid by the district curriculum budget.
