IUP is honoring veterans with several programs today and tomorrow.
Today’s events include a round table discussion with members of the National Guard and US Army Reserve students discussing the transition from military life to college life, and the challenges they face as current members of the military. This is part of the university’s Six o’Clock series and will be held at the HUB’s Ohio Room.
Also tonight will be a concert from the IUP Trombone Choir and Symphony Band. During the concert, there will be a world premiere of a new piece of music called “Freedom” by Jeffrey Hertwig, a director of bands at Mercer High School. The financial proceeds from the work will go to the Semper Fi fund to help veterans all across the country, and is dedicated to veterans who suffer from PTSD.
These events are open to the public and are free to attend.
Tomorrow, the IUP Military and Veterans Resource Center will host a Lunch and Resource fair from 11-2 at the HUB Ohio Room. The lunch is free to members of the active military and any veterans along with IUP Military-Friendly Staffers. Two presentations will be made during the fair, with one at noon and 1:00 PM about new laws going into effect on December first, and how those changes will affect Basic Housing Allowance for Chapter 33 students.
