A New York man and woman who are accused of using stolen identities to buy more than $24,000 worth of iPhones in Indiana and several other counties will be prosecuted in Westmoreland County.
31-year-old Jose Miguel Jorge and 41-year-old Jessica K. Cocco used the stolen information of residents of Utah, Missouri, Minnesota, and South Carolina to purchase iPhones at Walmart stores and upgrade existing AT&T accounts. They were arrested by South Strabane Township police in Washington County on September 23rd. State police filed the charges last Tuesday and they were freed after arraignment on $100,000 bond each.
Police say the thefts began at the Burrell Township Walmart store in Indiana County on September 18th, and eventually the pair were able to purchase 24 iPhones in Indiana, Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Allegheny counties.
Cocco is charged with two counts of theft by deception and single counts of corrupt organizations, receiving stolen property, forgery, and identity theft. Jorge is charged with two counts of theft by deception and single counts of corrupt organizations, and receiving stolen property.
Preliminary hearings are scheduled in Murrysville on December 3rd.
