Today is Election Day, and this year’s general election will focus on several local and county government races.
The Polls will open at 7:00 this morning and remain open until 8:00 tonight. Among the county government races that are contested today include County Commissioners seats. Democrat Sherene Hess is the only incumbent on the ballot. She will be joined by Democrat Donald Lancaster, Republicans Mike Keith and Robin Gorman and independent candidate Juston Marusa.
The District Attorney seat is also up for the vote today with incumbent Democrat Patrick Dougherty running against Republican Challenger Bob Manzi. The Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts position will also be decided with Randy Degenkolb running against Eric Barker. Another race that has caught a lot of attention is the Sheriff’s race as Bob Fyock is challenged by Lou Sacco.
Along with the other races that include various school board, borough council and township supervisor races, you will also see a question on the ballot concerning a proposed constitutional amendment for what is called Marsy’s Law, which would add a section to the state constitution to address the rights of crime victims. While the question is still on the ballot, Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court enjoined acting secretary of state Kathy Bockvar from counting or certifying election results on the referendum question pending a court ruling on if the amendment violates the state constitution’s requirement that separate amendments should receive separate votes. The litigation was filed by Lorraine Haw and by the League of Women Voters.
Just a reminder that there is a change in polling places for the Cherryhill #2 precinct, with it moving from the Twolick Valley Social Center to the Clymer Fire Hall. This was due to the off-street parking available at the fire hall compared to the social center.
Our coverage of the election returns will start at 8:00 tonight on WCCS and WDAD.
