PennDOT and State Police have announced the results of a recent enforcement effort concerning school bus safety last week.
Troopers and PennDOT were part of “Operation Safe Stop” from October 21st to the 25th. The operation was a public awareness campaign drawing attention to school bus safety and safe driving in school zones.
During the operation last week, troopers issued six citations and two warnings for motorists seen speeding in school zones. By comparison, state police issued a total of 129 traffic citations and 49 written warnings during the same five day period. Also during that five-day period, no citations or warnings were issued for meeting or overtaking school bus violations, which was one of the goals of the campaign. State police also conducted 27 school bus escorts, looking out for those who violated other school bus safety rules. Troopers also conducted 121 domestic security checks of schools throughout the county.
