At a special meeting held Thursday evening, the River Valley School Board approved two motions related to the construction of a new football stadium at the Blairsville campus.
One of those motions is to adopt a bond resolution for additional money for the project. Board President Rick Harper explains that with this new bond issue, there will be no increase in taxes to district residents.
But some board members were not happy with the proposition, including Melanie Pantalone, who believes the board does not have sufficient information to make the decision.
The vote went 5-3 with Pantalone, Jessica Clawson and Beverley Carnese voting against the measure. By a similar vote, the board approved purchasing the bleachers for the stadium at a cost of $1,200,500.
The board did unanimously agree to a proposal from the Burrell Township Supervisors to prepare and maintain the baseball and softball fields at Saylor Park for the 2023 season at a cost not to exceed $6,000.
