It wasn’t easy but the Penguins finally broke out of their slump last night in Washington. Paul Steigerwald has the story.
At one point in the game, the Pens were down three defensemen, forcing Jeff Carter to play on the blue line. After joking that Carter played defense because he was the only forward who could skate backwards, coach Mike Sullivan praised the guys who got it done in difficult circumstances.
Sullivan said the Penguins showed their mettle in the third period.
The coach says the Penguins are a team that strives to get better no matter how tough their situation is.
Sullivan says the Pens have to build on the win.
Casey DeSmith got the start in goal for the Penguins and made 24 saves. He says the team played well around him.
Jeff Carter returned to the lineup after missing the last three games. He says the win lifts a lot of pressure off the Penguins.
The Penguins’ penalty kill was 4-for-4 last night and is 7-for-7 in their last two games. The power play was 0-for-3.
The Pens travel to Toronto tomorrow night.
