The Steelers were missing some players yesterday as they put in the first full-scale practice in preparation for this Sunday’s game against New Orleans.
Kicker Chris Boswell was the most notable absence. He is still struggling with a groin injury suffered three weeks ago, prompting the team to sign Matt Wright from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. Wright, who this season kicked a 59-yard field goal for the Chiefs, will be in this third stint with the Steelers since 2019.
Cornerback Levi Wallace returned to full practice but fellow corners Ahkello Witherspoon and William Jackson III were out, as were defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi and linebacker Myles Jack. Ogunjobi said he plans to play on Sunday.
Rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett says he used the bye week to do some self-evaluation.
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson said the offense remains the same after the trade of fellow wideout Chase Claypool, and he says the team needs to start winning now.
The Saints are the only team that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has never defeated. Tomlin is 0-3 against New Orleans. Sunday’s kickoff is at one o’clock at Acrisure Stadium.
