State police are reminding everyone that this week will be Operation Safe Stop throughout Indiana County.
State police are teaming up with PennDOT in the public awareness campaign to raise awareness and enforce safe driving in active school zones and school bus enforcement efforts as part of National School Bus Safety Week. The particular rules that state police want to remind you of is that passing a school bus that has stopped with its lights flashing is illegal, along with speeding in school zones. PennDOT will put speed minders and electronic signs in place to help spread the message meant to curb speeding and other types of aggressive driving.
In addition, members of the Indiana barracks of the State Police will be targeting bus routes, and enforcing state school bus law, which requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet away from a bus that has its lights flashing and its stop arms extended.
