The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry has announced that Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went up slightly.
The unemployment rate for the state went up one-tenth of a percentage point in the month of September to 4%. That’s two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the record low of 3.8% from April to June of this year. The state civilian labor force increased by 12,000 people to 6,492,000. Employment increased by 6,000, while unemployment went up by 5,000.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the state went down by 5,000 to 6,044,500 in the month of September. Jobs were down in eight of the 11 industry sub-sectors. The largest sub-sector movement was a 2900 decrease in education and health services jobs. Trade, transportation and utilities saw the largest increase, going up 2800 to a record high of 1,132,700.
