A Burrell Township woman was killed yesterday in a single-vehicle crash in Derry Township, Westmoreland County.
76-year-old Cleo Free died of multiple blunt force trauma in the accident on Route 217, about a half-mile north of Route 30. She was pronounced dead by Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha at about 2 PM.
Free’s vehicle left the road on a curve, going through a fence and crashing into a tree, according to the coroner. Other motorists tried to get her car door open, but it took Bradenville firefighters using a rescue tool to get her out of the compact car.
No autopsy will be performed. Toxicology test results are pending.
Route 217 was closed for more than 90 minutes after the crash.
