In his latest blog, State System of Higher Education Chancellor Dan Greenstein writes of a number of new educational pathways being explored at state-owned universities, and one of those is an exploration of the possibility of obtaining a bachelor’s degree with less than the 120 credit hours currently required.
Greenstein writes about IUP’s partnership with more than a dozen institutions nationally which are considering the proposal, citing a memorandum to the State Board of Education supporting a waiver to mount the pilot program using a small handful of courses. The waiver proposes that the pilot program last four years and include specific study tracks offering a BA in History, a BS in Marketing, and a BS in Speech-Language Pathology.
Greenstein says the new educational directions being considered at IUP and other universities would help people enter sustaining careers, “focusing often in areas where skilled workers are in shortest supply.”
