The rain that has gone through the area this summer has complicated things for a construction project at the Penns Manor School District.
Over the summer, Penns Manor has been working on constructing a new football field at their facilities, which will utilize artificial turf. The project will also include some expansion of the current facilities for a new building at the field which will house new restrooms, a new concession stand and a referee’s locker room. But with the wet summer we’ve had, Superintendent Darren Johnston said that the project has been delayed a little bit. Both the landscaping company and field installation company have said they will meet their aggressive deadlines.

Construction on the project is expected to wrap up on August 22nd, just in time for Penns Manor’s first game of the season, a home game on August 25th against Northern Cambria. Much of the funding for the field project came from a grant from the NFL’s Grass Roots program. The school was nominated for the grant by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Penns Manor Foundation also contributed money to the project.
