After months of anticipation, “The Wall That Heals” arrives in Indiana today, and the public is invited to roll out the welcome mat this afternoon.
The three-quarter-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the nation’s capital is scheduled to be displayed at Mack Park and be available to visitors 24 hours a day from midnight Wednesday until 3 PM on Sunday.
The Northern Appalachian Folk Festival is bringing the wall to Indiana, in cooperation with the American Legion Post 141. Speaking on behalf of the folk festival yesterday on Indiana In the Morning, Tony DiLoreto said volunteers will be on hand to aid you during your visit to the wall.
The Education Center will display photos of the forty-one Vietnam veterans from the area whose names are on the wall.
The wall’s journey today will begin at the V.A. hospital in Butler and the public is asked to line Philadelphia Street at 4:30 as it arrives in Indiana, escorted by about a hundred motorcycles. It will travel the length of Philadelphia Street, then make its way to Mack Park.
An opening ceremony will be held at 6 o’clock on Thursday evening.
More information on the visit of The Wall That Heals to Indiana can be found at the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival website. It includes a list of the 41 Indiana County service members who were killed in Vietnam and whose names are on the wall.
