The Steelers were dealers yesterday on trade deadline day in the NFL, swinging two deals. One of those was the trade of wide receiver Chase Claypool to Chicago for the Bears’ second round draft choice next year. Claypool caught 32 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown this season and he threw a touchdown pass on an option play last Sunday against the Eagles. He wrote on Twitter that he was “beyond grateful for the amazing people in Pittsburgh”.
The trade was made after practice yesterday. Soon afterward, the Steelers acquired cornerback William Jackson III from Washington for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2025 draft. The Steelers will also get a conditional seventh round pick in ’25. Jackson was a draft target for the Steelers in 2016 but the Bengals picked him first, prompting the Steelers to draft the long-departed Artie Burns. Jackson has been limited to four games this season by a back injury for the Commanders.
In the midst of their bye week, the Steelers will practice again today and then get four days off before turning their attention to preparing to play the New Orleans Saints on November 13th.
