While IUP Homecoming is a time of celebration, many of the emergency services are working harder than normal this weekend making sure that everyone stays safe.
According to I-ACT representative Michelle Fryling, Thursday night was a calm night for first responders. IUP police reported making seven arrests Thursday night into Friday morning, with charges ranging from underage drinking to public drunkenness to traffic violations. They also reported that four of those arrests involved non-students.
Indiana Borough Police reported 12 arrests, including a disorderly conduct charge for a person who was not a local or a student. The remaining were traffic-related incidents.
State police made two DUI-drug-related arrests, one drug paraphernalia arrest, two arrests for possession of a small amount of marijuana and one public drunkenness arrest.
As far as the Indiana Fire Association, Citizens Ambulance and IRMC were concerned, they did not report any spikes in IUP-related calls.
