On the night of the final telecast for Pirates Legend Steve Blass, the Pirates gave him a show to remember as they walked off on a homer from Kevin Newman, 6-5.
Newman’s second homer of the night came after the Pirates were down 4-0 after 5 innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Kevin Newman would hit his first home run of the night, a three-run shot to left field. In the bottom of the sixth, Eric Gonzalez got the RBI as he lined out to second baseman Jose Peraza. As the reds tried for the double-play at first, the ball was bobbled, allowing Kevin Kramer to score to tie the game.
In the top of the 8th, the Reds reliever Michael Lorenzen hit a grounder to center field to score Jose Iglasias.
With one runner on in the 9th, Newman would hit his second homer of the night to left field, scoring Jake Elmore in the process, and enabling the walk-off win.
The Pirates, winners of 4 in a row now, will play tonight against the Reds, and you can hear it starting at 6:40 on WCCS.
