Week 10 of the IRMC High School football season kicked off last night as the Marion Center Stingers took down the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs, 34-8, in the U92 Game of the Week.
Todd Marino has the recap.
With the win, Marion Center ends its season with a 3-7 overall record and a 2-7 record in the Heritage Conference.
Action continues tonight with a couple of teams looking to lock up a spot in the District VI playoffs. One of those teams is the Homer-Center Wildcats, who travel to Meyersdale to take on the Red Raiders.
Wildcats coach Greg Page recalled playing the Raiders while at Laurel Valley, and he said that his team is ready.
Another “win-and-in” game features the Purchase Line Red Dragons taking on Bald Eagle. Both Homer-Center and Purchase Line hold the 7th and 8th spots, respectively, in Class A, and the only other team that could squeeze one of them out is Glendale, who hosts Curwensville tonight.
On Cat Country 106.3, two teams in search of their first win do battle as the River Valley Panthers take on the Everett Warriors.
The Panthers have had an underwhelming season, going 0-for-9 in Heritage Conference play despite being picked to finish third in the preseason poll. While this type of year could easily bring a team down, coach Jess Houser says his players are already looking ahead to next year.
Houser adds that Everett heavily resembles their opponent from last week, United Valley.
Airtime for the River Valley/Everett game is 6:30 on Cat Country 106.3. Airtime for Homer-Center/Meyerdale is 6:15 on WCCS and Renda Digital TV, presented by the Graceton-Coral Sportsman’s Club.
Other Heritage Conference games feature former WestPAC rivals Portage and Windber squaring off at Rambler Stadium, Northern Cambria battling Conemaugh Township, and Cambria Heights facing off against Northern Bedford.
On WDAD and Renda Digital TV, presented by the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana rounds out its WPIAL schedule against Plum.
Indians coach Brad Wright says Plum has a chip on its shoulder.
Airtime for Indiana/Plum is 6:30.
Crossover action continues tomorrow as 3-6 United Valley takes on 2-6 Conemaugh Valley at 1 p.m., followed by the Appalachian Bowl at 7, featuring 9-0 Penns Manor and 9-0 Berlin-Brothersvalley.
We will have coverage of the Appalachian Bowl on Cat Country 106.3 and Renda Digital TV, presented by Tate’s Supermarket and the Clymer Slovak Club. Airtime is 6:30 p.m.
