There are several trials and some sentencing proceedings on the schedule for Indiana County Court today.
Included among them is a jury trial for 34-year-old Lamar Virgil Clemons of Indiana, who will be tried on charges of possession with intent to deliver and simple possession. Those charges were filed by Greensburg-based state police for an incident in July of last year. They landed Clemons on the state police “Five Most Wanted” fugitive list in March, and police quickly found him at a home on Josephine Avenue in White Township. While there, they discovered a one-pot methamphetamine lab and so Clemons was charged in a separate criminal filing with manufacture with intent to deliver, deposits of chemical waste, possession of a controlled substance, and operating a meth lab. That case is awaiting a motions hearing next month as Clemons seeks to suppress the evidence based on a claim of illegal search and seizure.
Another methamphetamine case scheduled for trial today is that of 36-year-old Chad Dean Cahill of Armagh, who is charged with possession with intent to deliver, possessing substances to unlawfully manufacture, operating a meth lab, deposits of chemical waste, plus four other misdemeanor offenses having to do with meth manufacturing. He was one of eleven people charged in a three-county roundup of meth suspects in May. Cahill is also involved in another meth lab case currently in the court system. He was one of four people arrested last January at the Burrell Township Walmart when state police were called for a retail theft and found two one-pot meth labs in the trunk of their car. He pleaded guilty in that case, but now wants to withdraw that plea. He’s scheduled for a hearing on that petition next Monday.
Other jury trials scheduled for today include:
- 44-year-old Craig McMillen of Mahaffey, who is charged with two counts of driving under the influence and eight summary traffic violations.
- 26-year-old Ryan Price of Blairsville, for retail theft.
Defendants who will sentenced today include 37-year-old Amy Hillegas of Blairsville, who is involved in the same two methamphetamine cases as Chad Cahill, who we previously listed among those scheduled for trial today.
Hillegas pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver and retail theft in the Walmart case. The other case against her, as one of the eleven suspects in the three-county drug roundup, is still proceeding through the court system.
29-year-old Raymond Spencer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, will be sentenced for criminal trespass- breaking into a structure, and for theft in a burglary case in Indiana Borough. Spencer broke into S&S Screen Printing in May and stole a large safe and a dolly, which were both recovered from a retention pond in the 1400 block of Washington Street, minus about five-thousand dollars and a number of documents. In a second case, Spencer pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia.
27-year-old Frank Moose III of Clymer will be sentenced for theft by deception.
