Another bill that State Representative Jim Struzzi sponsored is on its way to the Governor’s desk after passing unanimously in the State House and Senate.
House Bill 1393 would take fentanyl test strips off the list of items that are defined as “drug paraphernalia.” Struzzi says that it is an important step in the fight against fentanyl overdoses. Fentanyl is often added to heroin or other drugs to increase its potency without people’s knowledge. Mixes of heroin and fentanyl have led to many overdose deaths over the past few years. A test strip would allow people to test for the presence of fentanyl, but the possession of test strips had been considered possession of drug paraphernalia, which is an ungraded misdemeanor.
Struzzi said he was happy to see the hard work pay off for the bill.
The bill is now on it’s way to Governor Wolf’s desk for his signature.
