Week Ten of the high school football season arrives early with a game tonight on 92.5 FM U92. It is Heritage Conference/WestPAC Crossover Weekend, presented by First Commonwealth Bank, with the 2-7 Marion Center Stingers playing 1-8 Claysburg-Kimmel at Hollidaysburg High School. The airtime is 6:30 PM.
With Marion Center sitting 12th in Class A and only eight teams qualifying for the District 6 playoff tournament, there will be no postseason action for the Stingers this season, so tonight’s game will be their finale.
Stingers coach Adam Rising’s team has played some good football against some of the Heritage Conference’s toughest teams in recent weeks. He says the conference is good preparation for the postseason.

The top four teams and six of the top eight in Class A are Heritage Conference teams. Penns Manor is at the top of the rankings and will be the top seed next week when the playoffs begin. The unbeaten Comets can’t be caught, no matter the result of Saturday’s night Appalachian Bowl game against undefeated Berlin-Brothersvalley. Cambria Heights is second in the Class A rankings, followed by Northern Cambria and Portage. Then come Juniata Valley and Moshannon Valley, with Homer-Center and Purchase Line holding down the 7th and 8th spots.
Homer-Center must win their game against Meyersdale to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. The only team that can squeeze them or Purchase Line out of the playoffs is Glendale, which is ten points behind. The Red Dragons play tomorrow night at Double-A Bald Eagle Area, which is 6-3. 4-5 Glendale will host Curwensville, which is Class A out of District 9 and is 3-6.
