An IUP student has been victimized by a scammer posing as his biology professor, and it has cost him thousands of dollars.
State police say 25-year-old Tyler Maykovich bought ten one-thousand dollar Steam gift cards, on Monday, but the recipient was not the professor he believed it was. Steam cards are digital transactions that work like gift certificates.
WHITE TOWNSHIP
State police report another attempted scam, this one involving a White Township woman. Someone attempted to open a PayPal account using the personal information of the 33-year-old woman, who lives along Shady Lane. The woman reported the incident on September 8th.
CENTER TOWNSHIP
Burglars struck a Center Township business early Wednesday. Police say it happened at about 4 AM at 286 Auto Repair of Homer City. The victims are a 41-year-old Clarksburg man and a 24-year-old Blairsville man. Police do not say what was taken or place a value on the stolen items.
CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP
One of the drivers was injured last Saturday afternoon in a collision just reported today.
State police say 63-year-old Edward Lisicki of Latrobe pulled onto Clarksburg Road from a stop sign on Saltsburg Road, colliding with a vehicle operated by 52-year-old Michelle Marshall of Clarksburg.
Marshall suffered minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization.
