PennDOT and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful have announced the creation of a Young Ambassadors program, and the first round of participants, which includes two students in Indiana County.
According to a news release, the new program “seeks to build community stewards and civic leaders by inspiring, engaging and empowering young Pennsylvanians to not only keep their communities clean and beautiful,” but to also become representatives in their communities for a shared vision of a clean and beautiful state. This was one of the recommendations that came out of the state’s litter action plan announced by Governor Tom Wolf in November of 2021. The 35 students who are a part of the project have committed to eight months of service to this project, but during that time, they will develop civic leadership skills and experience to advocate and promote cleaning up Pennsylvania communities.
On the list of the first 35 students to the program are:
- Anna Layden, an 11th Grader at Purchase Line Junior-Senior High School
- Via Krimin, a Senior at Indiana Senior High School
