At yesterday’s IUP Council of Trustees meeting, IUP President Michael Driscoll discussed the recent events concerning hate speech on campus.
In the wake of a racist video that made the rounds on social media, the university scheduled a discussion forum on Tuesday night called “A Community Response to Hate at IUP”. In his report to the trustees, and said he was proud of how quickly actions were taken on this matter and what actions were taken.
Driscoll also commented on the fact that IUP is in the time of a lot of changes, not just on the University level but the state system level as well, and that IUP is looking forward to the future.
In other business during the trustees meeting, the board unanimously approved re-naming the administrative office of IUP’s Academy of Culinary Arts in honor of Dr. Hal and Betty Wingard. This is in honor of their ongoing support of the culinary program.
The trustees also honored Dr. Bill and Audrey Madia with the naming of the chemistry department as a thank you for their longtime support. The two have been longtime supports of the chemistry and mathematics programs at the college.
