Up until now, contract talks between the State System of Higher Education and the faculty union, APSCUF, have been held in two-day sessions. This weekend, the negotiations enter a new phase, with five days of bargaining scheduled to take place in Harrisburg.
The talks have been congenial, with the two sides using a new concept called “interest-based bargaining”, focused on collaboration instead of the traditional exchange of contract proposals. They have even issued joint statements after each session ended.
The new round of negotiations will be from tomorrow through next Wednesday at the State System headquarters. The most recent contract expired on June 30th, but the faculty remains on the job at the fourteen state-owned universities. By law, the terms of the expired contract remain in effect until a new agreement is ratified.
