Numerous defendants will be sentenced in Indiana County Court today, all for driving under the influence.
Among those to be sentenced is 25-year-old Richard Ernest Pyle of Shelocta, who led Indiana Borough police on a chase through town before abandoning his vehicle and trying to flee on foot. It happened last July in the 400 block of Chestnut Street, and police said he tested positive for both heroin and alcohol. He also had heroin and drug paraphernalia on him.
In a plea bargain arrive at after Pyle challenged the evidence collected in his blood draw, he admitted guilt to DUI (third offense) and resisting arrest, with agreement for non-prosecution on fourteen other charges, including three for recklessly endangering.
There are twelve DUI cases scheduled for sentencing in county court today.
