The Penguins suffered their first stumble of the season last night, blowing a two-goal lead and losing in overtime to Montreal.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
The overtime goal was set up by the Penguins’ Jeff Petry taking his third penalty of the game in his return to Montreal, where he played the last eight seasons.
A very terse coach Mike Sullivan said after the game that the Pens lost for a very simple reason.
Sullivan said the Pens aren’t going to win many games when they take two periods off.
Goaltender Casey DeSmith made his first start of the season and said he felt good between the pipes.
DeSmith says playing in Montreal was a thrill.
The Penguins return home on Thursday night to host the L.A. Kings before making their first long road trip of the season, five games starting Saturday night in Columbus, followed by stops in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Seattle.
