The Pirates jumped out to an eight-run lead after five innings and then held on for an 11-8 win over the Rockies last night in Denver.
Trevor Williams picked up the win. He pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on seven hits for his sixth win. Kevin Newman and Adam Frazier each had four hits.
Eleven Pirates batted in the top of the first inning. Newman hit his eighth home run of the season, as the Pirates scored seven runs in the inning.
