Who says Penguins are flightless birds? Last night, the Pens came out flying for the opening game of the 2022-23 season, jumping to a 3-0 first period lead and coming home with a 6-2 win.

Coach Mike Sullivan says his team has played together for a long time and it showed last night.
Sullivan says his special teams showed there is room for improvement.
Sidney Crosby scored the first goal of the Penguins’ season. It’s the first time in his 18 years with the team that he’s done that.
Crosby says the Pens had a lot of energy and were ready to go from the opening faceoff.
Jason Zucker had a goal and an assist, and after playing only 42 games last season due to injuries, he says Penguins fans still have not seen him at his best.
Center Teddy Blueger missed the game with an undisclosed injury he suffered on September 28th. His spot in the middle of the fourth line was taken by newly-acquired Ryan Poehling with Josh Archibald and Brock McGinn on the wings.
The Pens return to the ice at PPG Paints Arena against defending Eastern Conference champ Tampa Bay tomorrow night.
