Altoona’s Cam Vieaux fired five-and-two-thirds innings of no-hit baseball, but back-to-back walks with two outs in the sixth innings were followed by Bowie’s first hit of the day, a three-run homer by Bowie catcher Carlos Perez, as the Baysox beat the Curve, 3-2.
Perez hit an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left field to erase the no-hitter, the shutout and a 2-0 Curve lead. Oneil Cruz hot a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Curve and Jared Oliva scored from first on a Cruz double after an error in the outfield by Bowie.
Vieaux finished six innings with just the one hit allowed. He walked two hitters in the first inning and went on to retire 15 straight until the consecutive walks in the sixth.
The series in Bowie wraps up Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. with right-hander Beau Sulser (8-1, 2.48 ERA) making the start for the Curve against Baysox righty Tyler Herb (3-2, 4.75).
The Curve head home on Monday to play the final home series of the 2019 season, a four-game set against Akron.
