Selected this week to the Forbes Magazine “America’s Top Colleges” list, IUP opens its academic year this morning with President Michael Driscoll’s annual address at Fisher Auditorium.
Driscoll will preside over the ceremony at 9 AM, laying out his vision for the new school year. The program is open to the public.
Students will continue to move in to the residence halls today and through the weekend. The university has planned a variety of campus-wide activities for “Welcome Weekend” before they begin to hone in on academics on Sunday with college and department meetings. Classes starting on Monday morning.
Returning students won’t notice much in terms of new construction on the campus, with most of the summer’s work focused on paving and infrastructure. On Tuesday morning, there is a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for the IUP University College at the new Stabley Plaza entrance across from Clark Hall. The University College, a concept that began last year for first-year students who have not yet selected a major or need extra support to succeed as a college student, is located on the ground floor of the IUP Libraries.
