Cam Vieux tossed seven scoreless innings and benefitted from early run support as the Altoona Curve shut out Hartford, 3-0, in Altoona.
Vieux extended his scoreless inning streak to 18-and-two-thirds innings, dating back to July 26th in a start with Triple-A Indianapolis. He gave up only four hits, struck out six, and walked two.
The Curve did all the scoring with four consecutive first-inning singles, by Brett Pope, Chris Sharpe, Jared Oliva, and Oneil Cruz, along with an RBI groundout by Bligh Madris.
The 3-0 win marked the 15th shutout for the Curve this season, the most since 2015 when the team recorded a record-high 16. Five of Altoona’s last six wins have been shutouts. Beau Sulser tries to keep it going when he gets the start tonight in the second game of the series.
More good news for the Curve…Logan Hill has been named Eastern League Player of the Week for last week’s action, when he hit .458 in six games, with three homers, three doubles, and 11 RBI.
And even the groundskeeper is in on the action for Altoona…Head Groundskeeper Chris Mason has been named the winner of the 2019 Eastern League Diamond Pro Sports Field Manager of the Year Award, as voted on by the Eastern League field staffs and umpires.
Mason is currently in his second season with the Curve.
