The Pitt Panthers are riding into their bye week on a high note after a 45-29 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Running back Izzy Abanikanda was named the FBS National Player of the Week and the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week after a record-setting performance against the Hokies where he beat Tony Dorsett’s single-game rushing record with 326 yards on 36 carries. He also tied Norman Budd for most rushing touchdowns in a game with six.
Abanikanda said he was thankful his teammates put him in position to break Dorsett’s record.
Coach Pat Narduzzi said Abanikanda’s speed is what makes him great.
Abanikanda now leads the FBS in rushing touchdowns (12), total touchdowns (13), points scored (78), and all-purpose yards (1,117).
Pitt returns to action Saturday, October 22nd against Louisville.
