Steelers coach Mike Tomlin surprised no one yesterday with the announcement that Kenny Pickett will be his starting quarterback against Buffalo on Sunday. Pickett came on in relief of Mitch Trubisky last Sunday in the loss to the New York Jets.
Tomlin says he’s confident that Pickett can be a good quarterback, but he knows Buffalo is a tough place to play no matter who you are.
One of the biggest headaches for Pickett and the Steelers will be solving the problem of the Bills’ Von Miller, the elite outside rusher who has been terrorizing offenses for more than a decade. Tomlin says Miller is a different type of player.
The Steelers’ injury report is not good, particularly in the secondary, where all four starters are hurt. All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick suffered a knee injury on Sunday and fellow safety Terrell Edmunds is in concussion protocol. Cornerback Akhello Witherspoon is already ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury and the other corner, Cam Sutton, has groin and ankle issues. On the defensive line, All-Pro Cam Heyward has ankle and elbow injuries.
