The Indiana County Commissioners met this morning and gave their approval for the contractor for the Hoodlebug Expansion Project.
The Commissioners approved a bid of $344,329 from Ray I. Winters and Sons for the completion of the project, which will connect the Hoodlebug trail from near Rose Street to Indiana Borough’s parking lot on South Eighth Street. Josh Krug with the Office of Planning and Development says that once the project is underway, Ray I. Winters and Sons will have 70 days to finish. The project is funded by local matches from Indiana County, Indiana Borough and IUP, the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund program.
In other business, the commissioners approved a data sharing agreement for the County’s Emergency Management Agency concerning the state Geospatial Coordinating Board. Emergency Management Director Tom Stutzman talked about some of the details of this agreement.

Finally the board approved a grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency for $100,000 of 2018 PA Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Funds. That money will go to the county’s 55 and over roof and heating system replacement program, which helps income-eligible homeowners over 55 to replace roofs and/or inoperable furnaces. There is a waiting list for this grant money, according to the Office of Planning and Development and the money is double what Indiana County received last year.
