A New Derry woman pleaded guilty in federal court to mail fraud charges.
Charlene D. Moff was in federal court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud connected with a scheme that targeted Victoria’s Secret. Acting US Attorney Soo C. Song said in a media release that Moff defrauded the retailer of over $30,000 in money and merchandise between September of 2013 and March of last year. Moff would order items from Victoria Secret’s website using her own or her husband’s account, and when it arrived, she would call customer service claiming that the shipment was missing certain items or the items were damaged or not the correct ones. This would result in Victoria’s Secret crediting her account or re-shipping the merchandise.
US District Judge Cathy Bissoon has ordered sentencing hearings to be held on October 26th. Moff faces up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $500,000 or both, based on how serious the offense was and if she has a criminal history.
