The Pirates suffered their seventh straight loss, 3-0 to the New York Mets last night.
The Pirates’ Trevor Williams did not allow a hit until the Mets’ J.D. Davis doubled with two outs int he fifth inning. New York’s Michael Conforto and David later homered to give the Mets all the runs they needed as Steven Metz shut down the Pirates’ bats, giving up only five hits and pitching a complete game with only 99 pitches.
Chris Archer takes the mound this afternoon for the Bucs, who have fallen to 12 games under .500 and ten out of first place in the National League Central Division.
The Altoona Curve lost their sixth straight game last night, 6-5 to Richmond in eleven innings. Jesus Liriano gave up a run-scoring double to score the placed runner for the Flying Squirrels. The game ended on an odd double play in the bottom of the inning, as Jared Oliva beat out what would have been a more traditional 6-4-3 double play, but Mitchell Tolman, who had been the placed runner at second, rounded third too far and was caught in a rundown double play.
