At Penguins training camp yesterday, Kasperi Kapanen returned to the ice after sitting out with an illness the previous two days. Coach Mike Sullivan said forwards Teddy Blueger and Jeff Carter are still both “day to day” with undisclosed injuries, although Carter skated before practice yesterday.
With nine NHL-caliber defenseman on the roster, Sullivan says he has plenty of time to determine who gets the most work on the ice.
Sullivan was asked about the NHL’s record goal-scoring pace of the last several seasons and said in his opinion, it’s a product of the fast playing style teams have adopted and the rare occurrence of top older goaltenders retiring and being replaced by inexperienced players in the nets.
The Penguins travel to Buffalo for a preseason game tomorrow.
