Westmoreland County Judge Christopher Feliciani has rescinded early parole for a New Alexandria man who caused a crash that killed a Blairsville woman in 2016.
22-year-old Samuel Grace III pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in December and was sentenced to serve 11-and-a-half to 23 months in jail, with work release, to be followed by two years of probation. Grace’s speeding car crossed the center line on Route 982 in Derry Township in October of 2016, colliding with the vehicle of 71-year-old Harriet Malloy, who was killed in the crash. Malloy’s infant granddaughter was riding in the back seat but was not injured.
Last month, Judge Feliciani ordered Grace released on July 10th, adding eleven months of house arrest to his sentence, but the judge required the consent of Malloy’s family, which had not been told of the early parole request. The family objected, citing what they considered a very light sentence in the first place, and after a hearing on Monday, Feliciani reversed his ruling.
Grace will be eligible for parole in November.
