There appears to be some forward momentum in the negotiations for a new contract for faculty members at IUP and the thirteen other state-owned universities. After two days of negotiations this week, both the State System chancellor and the president of the faculty union issued optimistic statements.
Chancellor Dan Greenstein said “Both sides are coming together with the understanding that (they) have shared interests and a stake in student success.” He said he appreciated the spirit of goodwill in the talks and is optimistic about the direction in which they are heading.
APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth Mash said there has been “substantial progress on several key issues,” expressing appreciation for the “quality conversations” at the negotiations table.
Talks began in May to replace a contract that expired June 30th. Two more sessions are scheduled on Monday and Tuesday next week.
The next talk for a coaches’ contract are scheduled for August 5th and 6th. That contract also expired June 30th.
