The Penguins opened their preseason schedule with a split squad win and loss against Columbus. In the afternoon game in Pittsburgh, Jason Zucker scored in overtime for a 3-2 win. Defenseman Jon Lizotte scored the Pens’ first goal and forward Corey Andonovski scored at 19:05 of the third, with the goalie pulled, to force the overtime.
In the second game, last night in Columbus, the Pens fell, 5-1. The Pens’ goal was scored by Jordan Frasca.
Pens’ associate coach Todd Reirden says the early part of the preseason is all about giving younger players experience and getting a look at them in game situations.
Assistant coach Mike Velluci liked what he saw of the team in Columbus.
The Penguins will play their next preseason game tomorrow night against Detroit at PPG Paints Arena.
