The Pirates’ Jordan Lyles gave up seven runs in the first inning and the Bucs could not recover, falling 10-4 to the Chicago Cubs yesterday. Starling Marte hit two home runs for the Pirates and Jung Ho Kang hit a solo shot.
Cubs starter Jon Lester had his way from the mound, pitching six and-two-thirds innings and giving up three runs, while homering and hitting a two-run single.
Trevor Williams (3-2, 4.54 ERA) pitches for the Pirates today. He will face faces Cubs lefty Jose Quintana (6-7, 4.19 ERA) on Sunday. Williams is making his firstv start since returning from paternity leave. He has struggled since returning from a right side strain, going 1-1 with an 8.31 ERA in three starts. Quintana has won his last two starts, giving up just three runs in 13 innings.
