Marion Center avenged an earlier loss to Homer-Center, handing the Wildcats their second loss in consecutive nights. The Stingers won 3-2 last night. Marion Center took a 2-0 lead – 25-19 in the first game and 25-23 in the second – but Homer-Center rebounded to win the next two, 25-17, 25-20, before the Stingers won the final game, 15-13. For Homer-Center, Meegan Williams had 27 kills and Ashlynn Kerr had four aces.
CROSS COUNTRY
Marion Center’s cross country teams also came up winners – again – in a Heritage Conference dual meet yesterday. The Stingers’ boys won their 50th straight dual meet by topping Purchase Line, 17-45 and Home-Center, 17-46. MC’s Tim Barrett won the race. Marion Center’s boys have not lost a conference meet since 2014.
The only active winning streak in the area longer than the MC boys is the Marion Center girls’ cross country team’s 82 straight. They beat Purchase Line 17-44 and shut out Homer Center. MC’s Lydia Miller won the girls race.
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
The Indiana Junior high football team beat Burrell, 44-22 yesterday, starting the afternoon off with a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown by Xavier Williams. Roman Jones scored the next two touchdowns on 25 and 41 yard runs. Williams threw a deep pass to Josh Reed for a 77-yard touchdown as the clock hit zero in the first half. In the second half, Williams ran for a 78-yard touchdown and Roman Jones finished the scoring with a 99-yard interception return. Dominic Kowchuck ran in two extra points. On defense, Darius Webb forced two fumbles and Ben Stephens forced one. Webb, Jackson Higgins, and Tyler Nelson all recovered fumbles. Indiana is now 2-2 and plays Derry at home next Thursday.
