The Pirates took a four-run lead late in last night’s game against the Yankees, before a historic 9th inning rally by the Bronx Bombers.

Aaron Judge says he’s honored to join Roger Maris and Babe Ruth as the only Yankees to ever hit 60 home runs in a season.
The Bucs missed having closer David Bednar in the 9th, so manager Derek Shelton stayed with Wil Crowe on the mound. Shelton says they couldn’t make the pitches in the end.
Crowe says he didn’t get the job done against Judge leading off the bottom of the 9th.

The Pirates yesterday promoted pitchers Quinn Priester and Colin Selby, catcher Endy Rodriguez, first baseman Malcom Nunez, infielder Aaron Shackelford, and outfielder Matt Gorksi from the Altoona Curve’s roster to Indianapolis. Rodriguez had two hits, including a double and hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI, and Gorski had a hit in a 7-3 win over St. Paul.

In the midst of a historic baseball season on the field, the Dodgers have been struck again by the death of one of their legends. Maury Wills passed away Monday night at his Arizona home. He was 89. Wills played a total of 12 seasons in two stints with the Dodgers. He was traded to the Pirates for Bob Bailey and Gene Michael before the 1967 season. In two seasons in Pittsburgh, he hit .290 and stole 81 bases. He played a season in Montreal before finishing with the Dodgers, retiring after the 1972 season.
In his career, Maury Wills hit .281 with 586 stolen bases.
