In a Renda Digital TV volleyball clash last night, West Shamokin came from behind to defeat Homer Center in five sets.
The Wildcats took the first and third sets easily, by scores of 25-13 and 25-15, but the Wolves narrowly won the second and fourth sets by identical scores of 25-23, setting up the final set, with West Shamokin jumping out early and finally clinching it on a kill by Maddie McConnell, 15-13.
For Homer Center, Meegan Williams had 19 kills and 2 service aces. Ashlynn Kerr had 11 kills and 3 aces. Macy Sardone had 36 assists.
Marion Center downed United, 3-1.
Cambria Heights shut out Penns Manor, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 behind 14 kills by MacKenzie Mulraney and 23 service points by Savannah Coover.
CROSS COUNTRY
Indiana’s cross country teams each scored wins over Latrobe and Greensburg Salem yesterday.
For the boys, Seth Weaver finished third, Jacob Gill 5th, Jaiden Myers 6th, Brennan Huff 7th, Will Berzonsky 9th, and Jacob Killeen 10th. Collin Frye was 12th.
For the girls, freshman Addy Fry was second, Chloe Hain 4th, Rachel Gill 5th, Belinda Lin 7th, and Emmy Davis 9th. Kaylee Onder crossed in 13th place and Emily Ferraro was 18th.
Both Indiana teams are 3-1 on the season, with IUP’s Crimson Hawk Invitational coming on Saturday.
GOLF
Indiana’s boys dropped their match with Penn Trafford yesterday by nine strokes at the Manor Valley Golf Club. That gave Penn Trafford the Section One title.
The Warriors’ Nick Turowski was medalist with a 35, one stroke better than Indiana’s Harrison Martineau and Trevor Todd, who shot even par 36. Adam Cowburn shot a 42 for Indiana, Hunter Martin a 43, and Gabe Nettleton a 45.
Indiana finished in a three-way tie with Hempfield and Norwin for second in the Section, with the WPIAL to determine the tie-breaking scenario. Only the top two teams from each section move on into the WPIAL team tournament
In a non-conference three-team match yesterday at the Indiana Country Club, Indiana’s girls topped River Valley by 11 strokes and Punxsutawney by 16. River Valley’s Alessia Lamantia had the low score, with a 53. Her teammate Maren Dunlap shot a 57. Three Indiana girls were in the fifties. Izabella Slagle and Emily Teacher each shot 57 and Peyton Scott a 58. For Punxsutawney, Katherine Crago shot a 55.
