Donald Eugene Spaid, 71, of Brush Valley, passed away Tuesday July 2, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.
A son of the late Eugene “Jim” Edward and Mary McClelland Spaid, he was born May 5, 1948, in Aultman.
Mr. Spaid spent 22-1/2 years serving his country in the United States Marines and the National Guard doing two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After retiring from the military, he worked as a coal miner and later as a truck driver for Wright Knox Motors Lines. Mr. Spaid was a member of U.M.W.A. Local 1257 and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling. playing computer games, and tinkering in his garage, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his beloved dog Boo.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Betz Spaid, of Blairsville; four children: Tammy Mountain and husband Thomas, of Blairsville; Donald Spaid, of Blairsville; James Spaid and wife Becky, of Homer City; and William Spaid and wife Amy, of Homer City; one brother, Danny Spaid, of Ford City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Barbara Spaid, of Robinson; Mary Jacobs; Bonnie Duitch and husband Bud; special friend and caregiver, Paula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Spaid; one infant brother, one infant sister, and a niece, Michelle Campbell.
There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Saturday July 6, 2019 at Brush Valley Chapel Cemetery. The observance of military honors will be accorded by the members of the Indiana V.F.W. Post 1989. Arrangements are being handle by Robinson-Lytle, Inc. of Indiana.
